Summer Speech Therapy Program

Old Salem Sertoma Club supports the Summer Speech Therapy Program. This program is offered to students in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, North Carolina, area who are receiving group therapy services through the school system. Its purpose is to provide individualized services that allows students to maintain and build upon progress achieved during the school year.

Each summer, 100+ students are served. Diagnoses consist of mild to severe articulation and fluency delays, some associated with hearing loss. Tuition is charged but scholarships are available and costs are defrayed through Sertoma's support. The program is organized and funded by the Interclub Council of the Henry C. Carter District of Sertoma, which includes Old Salem Sertoma Club.

Barbara Bedford Mundell Scholarship

The Barbara Bedford Mundell Scholarship is awarded to a speech or hearing-impaired student at the college or university level or a student who is pursuing a career relating to communicative disorders, such as speech therapy. The scholarship is valued at $1,000 per year, is awarded on a one-year basis, and sent directly to the financial aid office of the student's chosen college or university.

Deaf Camp at Camp Sertoma

Deaf Camp offers traditional and adventure camp experiences to boys and girls, ages 8 to 16, who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a family member who is deaf or hard of hearing.

Old Salem Sertoma Club provides scholarship funds to campers. Members often serve as volunteers during the week of camp and provide assistance in the maintenance of the grounds and facility throughout the year.

Community

Old Salem Sertoma Club supports various community projects and social service agencies. For example, the club collects and donates personal care items to Senior Services for distribution to their clients on a regular basis.
